Race Car Of The Day: September 18, 2011

Today's car of the day is Corgi's 1968 Austin-Healey LeMans Sprite.

HAN9-R-238 was built to race Le Mans and other international endurance races.  It incorporated all the best technology and experience the Healey's had including a 5 speed transmission, large dry sumped oiling system, fuel injection, and a wind tunnel tested body.

This is a recent purchase from old442dude (thanks Eric!) and is a model I had been seeking for quite some time.  I could use an upgraded model (at which point this one will lose it's last remaining sticker) but this one will fill my collection until one in better shape turns up.  I don't normally collect examples of cars that have no street versions, but this is such a fantastic looking car I can't resist.

The Le Mans Result:

15th place overall, 4th in P 1.3 liter class, a non-stop race covering 255 laps and over 2000 miles at an average of 94.5 MPH.
